Understanding Your Pool Equipment Pad
Pump, filter, heater, and valves — a plain-language tour of the equipment that keeps your water moving.
You do not need to be a technician. You should know what lives on the pad and what normal looks like.
Pump
Moves water through the system. Odd grinding, squealing, or failure to prime usually means baskets, valves, or a service call — not more of the same noise.
Filter
Catches fine debris. Pressure gauges tell you when it is loading up. Backwash or clean when pressure rises above your clean baseline. A filter that never changes pressure may not be filtering.
Heater or heat pump
Extends the season. Error codes and ignition issues are not DIY projects for most homeowners — power down and call if something smells wrong or repeatedly faults.
Salt system, if equipped
Generates chlorine. Cells need periodic inspection for scale. Output settings should match the pool’s needs and the season.
Valves and unions
Labeled valves save confusion. Know which position is normal filtration. Do not force stuck valves.
What to check monthly
- Leaks under the pad
- Unusual noise
- Error lights
- Clear access — plants and storage should not block service
On a first Tidewater Care visit we walk the pad with you and photograph it. That baseline is how the next fault gets diagnosed instead of guessed. Inquire about service if you want a refresher on your equipment.
